need honest age range for this toy/robot

My step son is wanting one for x-mas and I think it is to advanced for him. Can anyone who has one tell me if they feel an 8 year old is intelligent enough to handle this toy? Thanks.

If your son is comfortable using computers, they can probably have fun with the Spykee software.

They will need  A LOT of help buidling (assembling) the robot and setting it up on wi-fi (names, passwords, IP addresses etc.)

Once it's built and setup on the network, your son should be able to use the Spykee remote control software to drive the robot around, play sounds etc.

Re: need honest age range for this toy/robot

hi

In my opinion spykee is a toy for adult, because i think your childreen play just a moment with it....

It is fun for adult , invite a friend in your house with spykeee ,chat with your friend but for a childreen the interest is limited

The cost of spykee is expensive for a toy we play a few moment

But is just my opinion ...

I by spykee for customising and programming but not realy for play with it :)

I agree with you JimFX for it is more of an adult "geek" toy.  I bought it for word was that the code is going to be open source and I hope to mod it out quite heavly.  I have a lot of ideas and this is just the begining.  I beleive this toy is kind of the building blocks for adults that are interested in modding / hacking it and making it more personal as a hobby etc.

Assembly: I had meccano when I was a kid, and assembling Spykee isn't much different than the meccano sets I had as a kid.  If your stepson is mechanically inclined, doesn't get frustrated too easily and has a long attention span, then 8 years old is fine.

WiFi setup: 13-14 years old.  This is a one-off step tho, so if you can give him a hand configuring the settings and opening a port on your router, the you won't have a problem.

Daily usage: Spykee has a simple interface.  An 8-year-old will do just fine.
