From the first time I charged my Spykee back in Nov. '09, it never seemed right. The charge would only last maybe 10 to 20 mins. It got progressively worse. Then I got the notice that the charging unit was recalled and I got the new one. I figured this would surely solve my charging issue but it only made things worse (or so I thought). Spykee would move by itself, not charge at all (although it would show fully charged on the U.I). I put my Spykee on a shelf and there he sat for over a year. Then one day, I decided to go to Batteries Plus and have them make me a new battery pack figuring maybe the original battery was bad to begin with. Their price of $17.99 was much more reasonable than $45 to $55 ones at www.spykeebattery.com btw. I put in the new pack and all seemed to be working well. Then I noticed the same problems happening again. I opened up Spykee to check the charging voltages with my meter and I found out what my problem had been all along. The wires that run from the charging pins board to the main circuit board were pinched between the right rear motor housing and the small circuit board that sits atop the charging pins assembly. The insulation had worn off one of the wires and the bare wire was shorting out on the board. I moved the wires from where they were pinched and now Spykee charges 100% and today he ran a 5 min. run around the house and stayed on while I remotely viewed my living room for over 9 hours!!! Amazing! So my advice to all you Spykee owners that have experienced the same issues as I is open up the base and check for the same problem. It might just be a production problem when they are assembling the unit. Let me know if you find the same thing!
