First off, this thing actually works a lot better than I thought it would. The video is suprisingly good for such low resolution even in relatively low light. (my expectation were pretty low). Yes, it is a bit noisy but I mostly want it for when I am not home so that doesn't bother me. The controls are suprisingly responsive.
Requiring an application to control it rather than simply a web interface is a real shame. Unless I have my own computer with me, this makes it nearly useless. I am not going to install an application on someone elses machine. The killer app for this will be when it is controleable from an iPhone or other internet connected phone. Has anybody heard what the deal is with the SDK? The SDK claimes to have a .net interface. Is there going to be some kind of web services interface published as well?
But besides all of that, my real problem is viewing the video Spykee generates. It stores the files in the .ogm file format. The only way I have been able to view them is to upload them to YouTube. I tried downloading a program, OgmToAvi, which supposedly converts .ogm files to .avi files. I could then hear the audio, but not see any video. I similarly installed a codec for Windows Media Player but again all I got was sound, no video. Anybody have an easy way, on Windows Vista machine, to view, or better convert, these video files?
i have downloaded a codec for windows media player and they played fine, i cant give you the name of the one i used as i deleted it, it might only work on xp anyway
i would also like to be able to controll spykee using an iphone/touch or a mobile phone, i find it annoying that i have to turn on my laptop everytime
Check out VLC media player for Windows @ http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
It plays most video file formats.
