Re: £100 spykee delivered.. also Hello all ;-)

I got mine for #103.15 from Amazon delivered - it seemed to be a window just after Christmas.  I consider myself fortunate, as I'd say Spykee is *just* about worth that much :-)

Re: £100 spykee delivered.. also Hello all ;-)

Well it came today :-)

Little review time :-

Build up
First impressions was its a little smaller then i first thought it would be but still a decent size. It comes in loads of bits and took me just over an hour to build. watch out for step 7 as in my kit its been amended to use nuts rather than the plastic plugs.. you will see what I mean. The platic tubes arent the best and I just pushed them through in the end and they seem to stay ok... Other than step 7 (only seeing the leaflet amendment after the robot was built) it went together fine.

First play
Well what can I say it works.. lol amazed it does just what it says on the box which is more than i can say for my robosapian thing I got off my wife 2 xmas's ago.. which kept falling over !! which is one of the reasons I didnt buy the rovio.

I am more than happy with it so far.. I turned it on and the gave it a few seconds and refreshed my wifi network list on my laptop... the spykee??? wifi appeared and i connected to it through adhoc, again waiting afew seconds then started up the spykee software I downloaded from www.spykeeworld.com . it brought up my spykee and I connected and I was off driving it around. the delay between pressing a button and the robot moving is zero to be honest.. instant more or less. so after driving it into the kitchen and asking the wife for a brew the message appeared that the battery needed charging which i wasnt surprised at as I was using it out of the box. i drove it back but it didnt quite make it.. O well it did have zero charge in it. I then when it was oncharge logged in and set it up so it connected to my home wifi which is 128bit encrypted. Everytime you change something to do with the wifi you need to turn off and on your spykee.. I rebooted it and bingo.. it connected to my home wifi and I then could connect to it through my wifi. I then reg'd it on the spykee website. You need to do this so you can control it via a internet connection. I am assuming it uses this and holds your ip when your spykee is turned on which then gets past trying to remember your ip etc.. etc.. seems again to all work well. I still need to test the remote connect but I'm assuming its all set up right.

Overall
Well I'm well chuffed with it. For £130 (you can get it for less then £100) which is about half of the rovio its a bargain. If you tried to build one ie.. two motors / access point / webcam / mic / speakers.. etc I would of thought you would be getting upto something similar in price. My advice is BUY ONE..

Re: £100 spykee delivered.. also Hello all ;-)

I also recognize your user name, maybe carpc forums and maybe even "Gesh" if that rings any bells? :D

I got my Spykee for Xmas, Missus paid 185 quid!!!!

It turned out to be broken so I sent it back for a refund. It would only last a few minutes if I was lucky enough to connect to it. It ended up not even activating and stayed on the base.. grrr

Bought one from Giz for 98 quid :) So that cheered me up a bit as I got money back.

This Robot is really annoying me now, I am very computer literate and cannot get it to connect remotely.

Have tried everything now and still no luck.

If a new router does not fix this then it will be thrown very hard into the wall!!! Stupid Robot.
