Linksys WRT54GS

Hello, If you purchased Spykee and own a Linksys WRT54GS ( Any version ) there are a few things to know to help get you up and running. First, If you are using WEP ( If not, You should be! )The Linksys WRT54GS allows you to select from multiple WEP keys, Use only the first key, Spykee has trouble connecting to your router if you have a different key selected. I am not going to go into details on how to set up WEP, I figure the target audience of Spykee should allready know how to do so, Regardless of the age 8 and up catagory it's placed in. Second, Spykee will only connect to networks that don't contain spaces in their SSID, so if your networks name is Spykee WiFi for example then Spykee wont recognise the network and wont connect to it ( Notice the space between Spykee and WiFi ), Try something like Spykee-WiFi instead ( Notice the hyphen between Spykee and WiFi ). After you connect to Spykee remotely you will notice his I.P. address changes, This allows you to set his I.P. address permanently in your router so if there's a power outage Spykee can re-connect using the same I.P. address, this is called Port Forwarding and is discussed in you user manual. I recommend you set a permanent I.P. address if you plan on using Spykee over the internet and are gone for long periods of time. I also recommend plugging your computer directly to you router while setting up Spykee as I had to refresh or ( Repair ) my connection many times after making changes in my settings, Plus at this stage you can't be connected wirelessly to your router and Spykee at the same time. I hope this helps and maybe in the future there will be a how to connect to specific routers section in the forum for those who are having trouble. Since I now have all the bugs worked out, I could not be any happier with my purchase ( Spykee is way better than Rovio ).

Re: Linksys WRT54GS

I have this router but there is one small problem I see in this description that I can't quite figure out.

I'm not sure how to go about giving Spykee a static IP.  From what the manual says, the router must be configured to assign the IP and I'm currently not aware of any method to dole out IP addresses based on Mac addresses.  Do you know of a method to do this???

Re: Linksys WRT54GS

I also had to set up a fixed IP and port in order to get remote working. But its working now!

I am on a U-verse wireless router (2-wire). The low end and upper end 2-wires have similar set-up GUIs.

May have to dig around your settings to find your device settings, may be under firewall settings.
