Having had a replacement Spykee because my first one would not dock unless I picked it up and placed it one the charger (hint - get your retailer to send it back to France with the other dead ones as Meccano expect you to pay expensive carriage charges), I thought I would play with the VOIP.
This seems to be a disaster. I am comparing it to using Skype, (with headsets or a Siemens handset used as a speakerphone) to a remote location. Skype gives reasonable quality sound and no echo.
When used with a headset and to the same remote location Spykee gives terrible sound quality and a persistent echo. When used as a local VOIP phone (to another room, also using a headset at the pc) there is reasonable sound but the same echo. It is as though the microphone always picks up the sound the Spykee makes and sends it back to the other end. Unlike a sensible speakerphone with has a cancelling feature to stop feedback.
I am waiting to hear from my retailer to find out if they can ship the Spykee back - it would appear that Meccano are unable to do any diagnosis remotely - I offered them a login but they cannot even be bothered to try the VOIP function to check that it does not work.
I have to say that I am now regretting buying the Spykee and could not honestly recommend it to anyone else. Pity, as I had planned to buy one as a present for my sister once I had got mine working.
Anyone else experienced VOIP problems? Anyone solved their VOIP problems?
Anyone know how to change the name of a thread when it has been mis-spelt?
Should be VOIP, not VIOP
I know what you mean about the feeback echo.
This seems to happen when using in the same location as the bot. However, I am impressed that it works well when you are using it remotely.
From work, there is no echo and the mic is quite sensitive. Also, people in the room seem to have no problem understanding what I am saying through bots speaker.
This may depend on your internet connection, though.
Overall, I am impressed that ANY laptop seems to easily connect and use it's mic for 2 way communication.
