Remote SpyKee over port 80

I just got the SpyKee (woot!) and I wanted to use it from work, but any port other than 80 and 443 (web ports) are blocked. So after trying a bunch of different settings and reading a bunch of forums I ran across this forum that mentioned SpyKee’s default ports: 9000 for Local, 9001 for Remote.

Then I wondered if I had to use the SpyKee’s service in order to connect.. Why can’t I just put in my IP address of my home and connect directly. So I put my IP address in the remote field and sure enough it tried to connect using port 9001.. Sweet.. So.. I wondered if I could put what port number to use in the same remote field.. So I tried <ip>:80 and it tried to connect using port 80!

Next I setup a port forwarding rule on my firewall to direct port 80 traffic to the SpyKee on port 9001.

Next, I put in my IP:80 in the remote field and it connected!

Here are some basic steps (requires SpyKee to be connected to a router, not ad-hoc):

1)      Connect to the SpyKee locally
2)      Create a user account with password
3)      Disable “Use forwarding on the following port” You don’t need it with this solution
4)      Connect to your router and create a custom application or rule for your firewall. There’s too many routers around to explain how to do this, but you should create something like
a.       Protocol: TCP
b.      Port Range: port 80 to port 80
c.       Host port: 9001
d.      Host: Internal IP or name of SpyKee
5)      Launch SpyKee. Under remote connection enter you Internet IP (www.whatismyip.com) and port 80.. for example: 66.39.107.68 (this is spykeeworld.com's IP)
6)      Connect

I use dyndns.org because my public IP changes so all I have to remember is the dyndns.org name.

Re: Remote SpyKee over port 80

Sorry. The example in step 5 should be 66.39.107.68:80
I forgot to include the port number in the example.
