Battery Issue?

My robot is indicating it is fully charged, but when I try to activate it, it won't leave the base. The screen blinks and turns black, and goes back to the "battery full" screen. Before this, it was leaving the base but unable to be controlled at all. My Spykee is not new, but I've not used it for about a year. Do I need to replace the battery?

Re: Battery Issue?

Probably. Battery life is terrible on my Spykee. My guess is it's because the charger is on all the time and eventually burns the battery out from constant overcharging. All I know is I've been through four batteries in about a year and a half with my Spykee. For a time, you could get a replacement base for Spykee that automatically shut the power off after four hours; the problem with that was Spykee would quickly die if you didn't use it on a study enough basis to keep the battery charged. If the battery died, you were out of luck until you manually unplugged and replugged that base and let Spykee charge back up.

But I use Spykee to check up on my house when I'm away for a couple of days. What I ended up doing was using a digital lamp timer with Spykee, having it set to come on for at least a half-hour every two hours. I also have it set to run for four hours from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., and four hours from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. That's the "window" I use for activating Spykee to check up on the house. So far, this schedule keeps Spykee charged and a decent window of time in which to run Spykee around the house for a quick check.
