I was wondering about the interface on the Spykee base. In my mind, it seems that Meccano by nature is a hackable platform and the fact that they are offering the SDK to software developers is key to that. I have ordered my Spykee but have not received it yet (I am in the US) so I am wondering about the connectors available on the base. It seems the camera is the only thing that plugs in and that the arm lights are merely "light tubes" in some fiber optic sense. Is this true?
If there are lights in the arms themselves, one theoretical hack would be to replace the LEDs in the arms with servos that "open/close" the hands or some such thing. This would allow for additional functionality in the hardware controllable by "turning the lights on and off" in the software. Obviously without seeing the product I may be out on a limb here. I am a .NET developer but suffer a great deal of naivete on hardware issues.

The only connection on the base is a mini usb socket (the same one as the one on the psp) where the camera plugs into. Technically the lights do not plug into the base, there are 4 holes on the base where 4 lights shine out of, then when you put one of the tubes above one of them, it makes the whole tube light up, so there is no electrics involved in the arms or on the light tubes on the body. The only lights are the ones that the tubes sit on top of and the one in the head with the camera.
lol, i know im no good at explaning this, but just wait until you get one or find some more information in the instruction manual that can be downloaded from spykeeworld (the official spykee website)
