I understand the problems with locating a computer across the Internet. But why must I register all the information necessary for Mecano to bug me with them in order to use it across the Internet? Surely providing a "connect to an address" option should be in there??
It seems as if the only way to lock out the totally evil registering of your password with mecano is to fool the system into thinking you are local. I notice that it looks like it uses udp broadcast in local mode. Has anyone tried udp broadcast forwarding/proxying to achieve this ?
For the sake of balance though. I was very impressed with the low latency of the video, making it truely possible to drive it interactively, in contrast to other systems I've tried. I've yet to see how well this works over the wan, I'm not keen on opening this up based on the password escrow situation forced upon us. I do hope that Mecano revise their policy over this approach, though it certainly lives up to it's name as a spy robot. I guess once the open source is opened up we can work around it anyway.
Has anyone seen any of the open source?
