Running Spykee from Linux

I'm not sure if this will interest anyone, but just in case...

I have Ubuntu Linux on my laptop, and I REALLY didn't want to replace it with Windows just so I could remotely control Spykee from it.  So yesterday I installed virtualbox (open source edition), and installed a copy of Windows XP within that.

Then I installed .Net 2 and the console software into *that*.

And, to my amazement, it works!

I had to do a little bit of googling to get it up and running, but I'm no computer wiz, and I reckon that if *I* can do it, *anybody* can do it.

Re: Running Spykee from Linux

Whitefort, thanks for the info.  Unfortunately, it didn't quite work for me.  The console runs fine in my XP virtualbox, but doesn't "see" my local robot.

Can you tell me how you configured the network connection (NAT or Host Interface) of the virtual box?

What version of XP? home or pro?  What service packs were applied?  Was the XP one that came with your laptop?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Re: Running Spykee from Linux

jjclark, I had the same issue, i had to connect to the network via a 2nd machine running WinBlows XP, once i had done that and registered it with spyeeworld, and also paired it with my wifi router i could connect using remote mode, i still can't connect using local mode, but i will keep trying.

Stick with it, it took me 24hrs.

Re: Running Spykee from Linux

Thanks Juggler.  You did exactly what I'm doing.  I got my windoze xp laptop from work and connected with that.  It uses a third party (Funk Odyssey) wifi manager, and that seemed more capable than what comes with XP.

I'll also keep trying to connect (peer-to-peer) with XP under a virtual machine.  I'll let you know if I get it working.

Happy New Year.
