Re: Elder Parent Project

Hi, I'm in Texas...

I picked up Spykee as a way to check on elderly parents in another city.

Mom's deaf as a tree and does not always hear the phone when I call so it can be a guessing game when I don't get a reply if something is amiss..

I'm interested in a elder watchdog use for the bot.

Waiting for mine to arrive, assemble and we'll see???

I got them a phone dialer with pendant panic button, but that still does not fill in the blanks if the phone is not in reach or heard.

Anyone interested in a similar use?

Mod ideas for this application?

The fact that it can be operated remotely, has 2-way VOIP, a self charging mode, a camera to see if there is a problems are all things that make Spykee a good moders choice for sitter.

Like I mentioned above, calling by phone does not always yeild a response.

Sure Honda or someone will come up with a large Asimo unit that is more autonomous to do even more, but at what price? How far in the future?

I'd like to see how far I can go for a low cost for the masses price point.

What about a find me I need help mode similar to finding the charger base but for locating a person with a remote beacon or pendant of some type?

Then the ability to initiate a VOIP call out for an emergency response to pre programed numbers,.

For the deaf a TTY like LCD for TEXT to TEXT when VOIP might not be something they can hear?

I see many seniors that resist new technologies at first, but then later adapt quickly.

Comments?

One thing, they have to have a reliable broadband connection.

Another thing, it is plastic and not completely stable.

I just got mine and was happy to see a microphone on the GUI. It appeared to work when I clicked on it....still playing with mine.

Overall, very nice toy. Definitly a gateway to potential other applications. Slowly, we are entering the age of the robot. Out of the box, and assembled, it can definitly be used as a good communcation device.
