Battery Replacement/upgrade?

Does anyone know what the mAh rating on the 9.6 V NiMH battery is?

Noticed it has somewhat short life, maybe upgrade could help?

Thanks

Re: Battery Replacement/upgrade?

Hello,

it should be 1800 mAh.

I replaced it with the 8x1.2 AA 2600 mAh batteries. The power seems to be ok. But I think that I have  a problem with battery sensor. Somehow it is showing low level of batteries even when I take them directly from charger.

I don't know. Maybe if there was some way how to turn of this sensor.

Re: Battery Replacement/upgrade?

Hi Raith,

You can get 2600mAh packs ready made for around a tenner on Ebay. Got mine from "Electroquest123" and the two I've bought worked a treat. You can get 2900mAh AA cells fairly readily if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can make up your own pack.

One of the problems to become apparent of late is the stupid new charging dock which cuts off after 4 hours of charging. This won't recharge a fully depleted pack, especially if the capacity is larger than the original 1800mAh effort originally fitted. Personally, I've junked the new charging dock and gone back to the old one. There have been reports of these things (original chargers) overheating but personally, I've not had a problem and this fault was probably more down to the shockingly crap battery pack that Meccano saw fit to utilise on the original Spykees. The problem with the new cut-off type is the battery discharges as soon as the charger cuts out as Spykee is always on and drawing current. Not sure which "Einstein" at Meccano came out with this design but it was obviously a knee jerk reaction to a reported issue and not fully thought through.

 Hope the info helps,

Regards,

Nat.

Re: Battery Replacement/upgrade?

You can also get new batteries from www.spykeebattery.com - they sell for pretty cheap there and I got mine within a couple days!  When I emailed support to help me put the battery in, they were very helpful and patient.. i'm so terrible when it comes to electronics!
